Interview with Janet Sketchley

Today on Spring Suspense, I have Canadian author Janet Sketchley. Janet is the author of the Redemption’s Edge suspense series and the devotional book, A Year of Tenacity. She lovesJanet Sketchley headshot 350x350 Jesus and her family, and enjoys reading, worship music, and tea. Janet lives in Atlantic Canada, and you can find her online at janetsketchley.ca.

Why did you choose to write in the suspense genre? My first novel found me—I wasn’t looking—and it was suspense/thriller. When I began thinking of a second novel, I knew I wanted it to be less intense than the first one, for my own peace of mind, but I still felt it needed a suspense element to keep my interest, so I turned to romantic suspense.

Do you have a favorite action/adventure or suspense/horror movie? Ooh, that’s tricky. Probably The Scarlet Pimpernel (Anthony Andrews and Jane Seymour version), but it’s hard to deny the classic appeal of Casablanca and The Princess Bride.

Do you also read in the suspense genre? If so, who’s your favorite author? At least half of the books I read are suspense, although I find myself moving more to cozy mysteries than straight-up suspense. It doesn’t take much to scare me. These days my favorite author in Christian suspense is Heather Day Gilbert, particularly her Murder in the Mountains series because I really like her heroine.

What is next for you writing-wise? I’m transitioning to cozy mysteries as a writer, too. The first book in the Green Dory Inn mystery series should release in June.

Anything else you’d like to add? Thanks for hosting me, Sara! I should explain that my Redemption’s Edge suspense novels can be read as stand-alones. They do follow a chronological order, but have different characters, so if the first one’s too dark, readers can easily start with the second, Secrets and Lies—which is why that’s the book we’re featuring today. Also, since I have a new book coming out soon, I’ll mention that readers who want to know when it releases are invited to join my email list at bit.ly/JanetSketchleyNews.

That’s great! Congratulations on your next book coming soon too! Oh, and I love, love, love The Princess Bride. Definitely on my top five favorite movies list. It has been so nice chatting with you, Janet. Janet’s novel, Secrets and Lies, is available now! (See links below).

Secrets and LiesA single mother must protect her teenage son—from organized crime and from himself.

Carol Daniels thinks she out-ran her enemies, until a detective arrives at her door with a warning from her convict brother. Minor incidents take on a sinister meaning. An anonymous phone call warns her not to hide again.

Now she must cooperate with a drug lord while the police work to trap him. Carol has always handled crisis alone, but this one might break her. Late-night deejay Joey Hill offers friendship and moral support. Can she trust him? One thing’s certain. She can’t risk prayer.

Thanks for hosting me, Sara, and for the fun questions. Yes, I think it’s time to watch The Princess Bride again 🙂 Just so your readers know, Secrets and Lies is only 99 cents from now until March 13, 2018 — so if they’re curious, now’s the time to try it.
