Today on Spring Suspense, I have Canadian author Janet Sketchley. Janet is the author of the Redemption’s Edge suspense series and the devotional book, A Year of Tenacity. She loves Jesus and her family, and enjoys reading, worship music, and tea. Janet lives in Atlantic Canada, and you can find her online at janetsketchley.ca.

Why did you choose to write in the suspense genre? My first novel found me—I wasn’t looking—and it was suspense/thriller. When I began thinking of a second novel, I knew I wanted it to be less intense than the first one, for my own peace of mind, but I still felt it needed a suspense element to keep my interest, so I turned to romantic suspense.

Do you have a favorite action/adventure or suspense/horror movie? Ooh, that’s tricky. Probably The Scarlet Pimpernel (Anthony Andrews and Jane Seymour version), but it’s hard to deny the classic appeal of Casablanca and The Princess Bride.

Do you also read in the suspense genre? If so, who’s your favorite author? At least half of the books I read are suspense, although I find myself moving more to cozy mysteries than straight-up suspense. It doesn’t take much to scare me. These days my favorite author in Christian suspense is Heather Day Gilbert, particularly her Murder in the Mountains series because I really like her heroine.

What is next for you writing-wise? I’m transitioning to cozy mysteries as a writer, too. The first book in the Green Dory Inn mystery series should release in June.

They do follow a chronological order, but have different characters, so if the first one’s too dark, readers can easily start with the second, Secrets and Lies—which is why that’s the book we’re featuring today.
